“Interventional cardiology is a branch of cardiology dealing specifically with catheter-based treatments of some forms of structural and electrophysiological heart diseases via a minimally invasive approach. This technique has the advantage over traditional surgery of the avoidance of pain, scar formation and long post-operative recovery times. In small animal cardiology, interventional cardiology is primarily utilised for the correction of congenital cardiac defects, cardiac pacing, and arrhythmia ablation.
On Wednesday 25 April 2024, Heidi Ferasin, cardiologist here at The Ralph, will discuss the indications and techniques for common interventional procedures used in small animal cardiology, including patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) occlusion, balloon valvuloplasty (BVP) for the management of severe pulmonic or aortic stenosis, transvalvular pulmonic stent angioplasty for the management of some forms of pulmonic stenosis and transvenous permanent pacemaker implantation”.
Food and drink will be available from 7pm; the presentation will start at 7.30pm.
