Senior Anaesthesia and Analgesia Clinician

The Ralph is the UK’s largest independent (non-corporate) multidisciplinary specialist referral centre in southeast England with ~260 Ralphers. We are looking for a Senior Anaesthesia and Analgesia clinician to join our friendly, collaborative team. We prefer a full-time appointment but are open to discussing different part-time working patterns. Applicants interested in both full-time and part-time positions are welcome to apply. We will consider diplomates and residency-trained board-eligible candidates.

At the time you join, the anaesthesia and analgesia team will consist of:

– Two ECVAA Diplomates
– Three residency-trained clinicians
– Two ECVAA Residents
– Three vet interns
– A large team of anaesthesia/theatre nurses

You will have access to a full range of dedicated anaesthetic equipment, StimPod TOF monitoring, nerve stimulation and a dedicated ultrasound for locoregional anaesthesia. At The Ralph, you will work closely with diplomates in all disciplines, including cardiology, dentistry, diagnostic imaging, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery, as well as our excellent physiotherapy and rehabilitation team.

Our cardiology team regularly undertakes a range of cardiac interventions, including more novel techniques in collaboration with a human paediatric cardiologist. The anaesthesia team has an excellent, collaborative relationship with our well-established 24/7/365 diplomate-led ECC team, which provides an exceptionally diverse and interesting caseload through its dedicated dog and cat ICUs.

Our ideal candidate’s winning traits include dedication to patients, a positive attitude toward teamwork, a willingness to teach, and a cheerful, friendly character.

A team of six senior anaesthesia and analgesia clinicians allows them to dedicate focused time to teaching nurses and intern/resident team members. We also plan to push forward in developing specific team projects in 2025, such as managing chronic pain cases (including performing interventional techniques) working closely with our physiotherapy and rehabilitation team, among other disciplines. Our senior anaesthetists are also responsible for patient workflow coordination in the theatre area.

We offer a competitive salary and other benefits package, including a generous holiday and CPD allowance, employee share options and private medical insurance.

Full-time is four days per week. Our current clinician team works with a shared on-call rota covering evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. We expect you will be on call one weekday night and one in five or six weekends with support from our interns and residents. On-call commitments are subject to team size. We are open to discussing different part-time working patterns.

Marlow is located on the River Thames between Henley and Windsor. This is a beautiful area with lovely walks, water-based activities and more. Our hospital is just off the A404 with easy access from the M4 and M40 motorways and close to London. Marlow is conveniently located only 25 minutes from Heathrow Airport, 45 minutes from Luton Airport and one hour from Gatwick or Stansted Airport. This location makes it very convenient for weekend getaways or our European colleagues to ‘pop back’ to their home countries to visit friends and family.

The Ralph workplace focuses on core values, culture, vision and mission. We emphasise kindness, compassion and empathy for all our communities. As an independent hospital, we have the freedom and flexibility to chart our course. We would love to hear from you if you want to know more.
