Shakira Free Miles

Night Nurse

Shakira graduated and qualified in 2009 from Sparsholt as a Veterinary Nurse.

She then locumed across various veterinary hospitals within the UK and internationally gaining unique and transferable skills with various animals and organisations. This led to Shakira campaigning for animal welfare, focusing on ‘Breed Specific Legislation’ in which she was awarded ‘Veterinary Nurse of the Year’ and an ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Veterinary Profession’ award from the BVNA. Shakira is a keen public speaker on animal welfare specific topics and has given many lectures in universities, clinics, veterinary/animal care conferences and parliament.

Shakira then landed roles that led her to see how fear free handling was in need for many nervous animals whom needed veterinary care and intervention. During this time Shakira worked as a consultant for four years where she enjoyed helping her patients have more choice in their health care needs, integrating behavioural well being and considerations along the way.

Shakira is currently studying for her fear free practitioners certificate and is delighted to be at The Ralph to be a passionate patient advocate over night where such values are encouraged and upheld.

Shakira enjoys fostering many animals who need one to one care, having plenty of time in the sun and eating out at vegan restaurants.
