Surgery Intern
Roelof graduated in 2018 in Belgium from Ghent University after having completed a bachelor in biomedical sciences in Amsterdam. During his masters he completed an Erasmus+ exchange in Germany with a focus on surgery. Wanting to explore the UK he moved to work in general practice in South-West London for 2.5 years where his interest in surgery and management of cases in a referral setting rose even further.
Roelof completed a rotating internship in a busy multidisciplinary referral centre in Surrey after which he was offered to start the surgery internship here at The Ralph. In between these internships Roelof locumed at a small animal general practice and spent a month volunteering at an animal hospital in the Caribbean.
During his internship Roelof is hoping to improve his overall surgical skills in all disciplines with a focus on exploring the different uses of laparoscopy.
In his spare time Roelof likes to ride his motorcycle or bicycle, explore the countryside while hiking or camping, or playing random sports. He developed a keen interest in SCUBA diving while in the Caribbean which complements snowboarding in the winter nicely. Roelof also enjoys improving his hand-eye coordination on his PlayStation.
One of his achievements is having an almost fully stocked BSAVA manual library with most of the books well protected in the original cellophane.
