Marisa Lourenço

MRCVS

Senior ECC Clinician

Marisa graduated from the University of Evora, Portugal, in 2015, and after spending a couple of years working as a small animal general practitioner, she moved to the UK for an out-of-hours veterinarian role. In 2018 she began her specialty training with a rotating internship at the University of Edinburgh, and in 2019 she emigrated to the USA to complete an Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) specialty internship at the University of Georgia, followed by a residency at Tufts University in Massachusetts. In 2023 she returned to England to be part of the founding clinical team of the ECC service at a new referral hospital, and in September 2024 she joined The Ralph as an ECC Clinician.

Her main areas of interest are respiratory diseases (with a special focus on mechanical ventilation), as well as the management of traumatic and high-dependency post-operative patients in the ICU.

She loves contributing to education opportunities and has been delivering CPD in the critical care field, particularly to Portuguese students and general practitioners since the beginning of her residency.

When not in the ICU, Marisa loves spending time with her Spanish Pomeranian “Dolly” and her American cat “Pedro”, as well as her collection of houseplants.
