Hospital Counsellor (Student)

Katie qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2012 in Berkshire, and went on to work in a large multidisciplinary referral hospital initially as a surgery nurse, then into emergency and critical care where she became a senior nurse in 2016. Here, she developed her teaching skills and gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Veterinary Education and started providing CPD to nurses in the UK and internationally. 

Katie has always had a passion for mental health, both within the veterinary profession and beyond, and started training to become a counsellor in 2019. 

In 2021 Katie enrolled onto the Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (National Counselling Service Accredited) with a view to qualifying in 2023, and has joined Team Ralph to support our community, from the hospital staff to our pet carers. 

Katie is on the committee for the Veterinary Critical Care Nurses (VCCN, part of a One Health initiative to combine education for Veterinary critical care nurses and those in human critical care within the BACCN), and volunteers as a nurse locally for Streetvet. 

Katie shares her home with her partner and a variety of furry and feathered companions.

  • CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills 
  • NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory 
  • Blue Cross Pet Bereavement Support Certificate
