New Walkin’ Wheels help our patients get back on their feet

Our patients who are recovering from neurological and movement disorders can now benefit from the use of Walkin’ Wheels dog wheelchairs.

Poppy uses her wheelchair as she recovers from spinal surgery.

These specially designed wheelchairs support the rehabilitation of our patients following conditions like spinal injury, and when recovering from surgery. The design of the wheelchairs allow our canine companions to place their feet on the ground, thereby encouraging them to practise walking. With the comfort and support of the wheelchair our patients can rebuild their muscle strength, restore their balance, and be helped towards better mobility.

Kim and Louise encourage Poppy as she walks towards them.

Patients like Poppy (pictured above) and Freddie (pictured below) can now use these wheelchairs to continue their recovery in the comfort of their own home.

Freddie, whose condition affected all four limbs, benefits from the added support of four wheels.

“By using these wheelchairs we can help our patients to get strong enough to walk by themselves and live a happy and healthy life”Kim Sheader, Head of Physiotherapy + Rehabilitation.

The wheelchairs are available for hire and for purchase from our Physiotherapy + Rehabilitation Service as a supportive measure in our patients’ rehabilitation programmes. For further information please email [email protected]
