A milestone: the end of our first Referral Nurse Internship Programme

A whole 12 months ago we welcomed our very first cohort of Referral Nurse Interns in a milestone moment for The Ralph: launching our referral nursing internship programme.

Josh, Evie, Heather, Katie, Emily, Kristine, Jodie and Louise have all graduated the rotating internship and six of them will continue in to nursing roles with us.

The aim of the programme is to bridge the gap between primary care nursing and referral nursing. To successfully complete it, the eight nurses (self-titled “The Raspberries” because of their raspberry coloured scrubs!) undertook formative and summative assessments to test their critical thinking, skills competency and depth of clinical knowledge, as well as reflective practice.

Steve Murphy, Head of Nursing, says “All of the interns have been a credit to themselves with the way they have approached the internship. They have shown a positive can do attitude in all of the disciplines they have rotated through. They became invaluable members of Team Ralph. A big thank you to our nurses that put themselves forward to act as mentors for the interns providing all-round support.”

Heather Simcock, one of the Nurse Interns at The Ralph who has now begun her role as an Internal Medicine Nurse, reflects on the internship “If you had told me that I was going to have fallen in love with internal medicine after this internship I would have laughed. It has been great to experience everything to find out what my true passion in nursing is.”

In light of its success, The Ralph will be starting the next Referral Nurse Internship programme in early 2022.

Keep an eye out for more opportunities to join Team Ralph, and join our mailing list to follow our journey!

Take care,

Team Ralph
